Telexo Broadcasting Takeover

The Telexo Broadcasting Takeover was a planned resistance effort by ShipRight employees to spread awareness of unsafe labour conditions.

Preparation

The event occurred when six warehouse workers and two system repair interns from the ShipRight Central Depot sabotaged the hangar magnetic safety gates and commandeered a SR-26 company airship. The ship was chosen due to its maneuverability, and as most of its systems are closer to the front of the craft rather than the middle. They also brought a four and a half minute analogue tape containing footage of workers passed out from exhaustion, children taping boxes, and brief views of the “company detention centre” interior.

Takeover

The crew piloted the craft six kilometres to the Telexo South Complex, intentionally impaling the airship on the main broadcast tower. The ship’s communication system was then patched into the transmitter by the two systems interns. The tape was played in a loop for twenty-six minutes until security reached the ship, detaining the commandeers and disabling the transmission.

Aftermath

In the aftermath of the event, ShipRight went to great lengths to limit the spread of the footage. Using Crown funding, they offered to purchase any original recordings made by home viewers. This led to a mass production of counterfeit tapes with falsely encoded timestamps, and ShipRight was forced to scrap the program and simply condemn the tape as doctored. Nonetheless, many anti-Crown organizations used the tape to support their claims of abuse within Crown subsidiaries, and ShipRight saw a significant, but brief, drop in sales.

Although there were no injuries and limited damage outside the airship, the eight crew members were imprisoned without trial and interned in Oubliette.
