PanOptics
PanOptics is a CCTV system manufacturer and distributor. They manufacture essentially all of Ivykeep's video security systems, and work closely with a variety of institutions such as the Crown and Verdantics.
History
PanOptics was created by videographer Peter Hawthorne while experimenting with pre-Genesis digital video technology. He had a growing collection of partially working digital camera sensors, but little resources to expend on this side project.
Hawthorne often worked with EastRock Electric plant managers for the filming of PR and advertising videos. While working with Naseem Allott, plant manager for New Battersea, Allot related a story of something he had noticed while preparing promotional material in the plant. On days where camera or video crew were present, plant efficiency and output were markedly higher than days where supervision was limited.
Hawthorne was intrigued by this, and invited Allott to view his digital video project. Allott believed there was potential in the use of live surveillance to boost worker production, and offered a large sum of money should Hawthorne successfully link the digital sensors to a video display and produce two dozen such devices.
Hawthorne spent several months on this new direction, with the help of his wife Anna who would travel across Ivykeep to collect tools and parts. While he did succeed in producing several CCTV systems, it was nowhere near the amount requested. At risk of losing his contract, Hawthorne proposed a new idea: The construction of 24 identical camera chassis, with only a select few actually containing the video transmitting system. He predicted this would still have the same effect on workers while cutting down costs significantly.
Allott reluctantly agreed to this amendment, and installed the cameras throughout the plant. To his disappointment, productivity increase was minimal. He did however, see a marked drop in criminal incidents such as assault and theft. Satisfied, he returned to Hawthorn and proposed the creation of a business focused on security rather than productivity. Hawthorn agreed and PanOptics was incorporated, named after each of the founder's initials: Peter Hawthorn as Chief Engineer, Anna Hawthorne as Supply Manager, and Naseem Allott as Distribution Manager.
